“Red Light District” is inspired by Auguste Rodin’s sculpture, “Eve”, previously on display in the Corcoran Collection at the National Gallery of Art. A provocative red spotlight cuts the panting in half, echoing the angle of a similarly provocative female figure. This painting explores femininity and sexuality in the West, strongly influenced by Abrahamic religion and social norms. The figure stands simultaneously shameful and brazen. This painting was created by overlapping images from the sculpture to create a new form. The original on thick canvas paper (8.5 W x 11.5 H) is available and prints are available.
